Sinohydro Puts 6,410 Megawatts of Hydropower into Operation in 2007

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sinohydro Corporation's (Beijing) Eighth Project Bureau put the first unit of the Tongwan hydropower station into operation in late December in central China's Hunan Province. The project boosted Sinohydro's capacity in China to 6,410 megawatts (MW) in 2007, a new high for the company, which also erected units in the Three Gorges and the Longtan projects. Each Sinohydro unit is a 700-MW hydraulic turbine generator.

In the Three Gorges project, units 20, 21 and 22 were commissioned in 2007 built by Sinohydro's Fourth Project Bureau. Unit 21 took only 300 days, a construction record in the project.

In the Longtan project, units 1, 2 and 3 were put into commercial operation eight, 11 and 14 months ahead of schedule, respectively. The units set the fastest construction speed for extra large hydropower projects in China. Unit 1 is the first 700-MW air-cooled hydraulic generating unit and the largest of its kind in the world.
