SNERDI Awards Engineering Subcontract for Chashma Nuclear Units

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony of the engineering and technical service subcontract for conventional islands and balance of plant for Chashma Nuclear Power Plant's third and fourth units, between Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute (SNERDI) (Shanghai) and East China Electric Power Design Institute (ECEPDI) (Shanghai), was held in Shanghai on August 6. Zheng Mingguang, President of SNERDI, and Chen Shengming, President of the ECEPDI, signed the subcontract on behalf of the parties, the SNERDI announced August 7.

SNERDI is a subsidiary of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) (Beijing), and ECEPDI is a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing). Wang Binghua, Chairman of SNPTC; Wang Jianping, President of CPECC; and Zhang Jingtao, General Manager of China Zhongyuan Engineering Corporation Shanghai Company, the general contractor of Chashma project, attended and spoke at the signing ceremony.

SNERDI and ECEPDI have established decades-long partnerships in projects such as Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant and the first two units of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant. Qinshan is the first nuclear power plant in mainland China, and Chashma is the first export of China's nuclear power technology and representative of the Chinese nuclear power industry's open policy.

Chashma is an inland nuclear power plant located at Mianwali, Punjab, in northwest Pakistan, which is about 1,200 kilometers from Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan. The third and fourth units of the power plant will be 300 megawatts (MW) each, with single-unit capacity at 340 MW, and will have a 40-year design-service life. SNERDI kicked off the engineering for the third and fourth units (C-3/C-4) of the power plant on March 1, and signed the Engineering and Technical Service General Contract for the units with China Zhongyuan Engineering Corporation in Shanghai on April 28.
