Startup of Tate & Lyle’s $100 Million Expansion in Indiana Delayed

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The wheels of progress are slowly grinding along at the construction site of the Tate & Lyle Plc (London, United Kingdom) complex in Lafayette, Indiana. In the summer of 2005, the global ingredients manufacturer started construction on a $100 million expansion project aimed at increasing capacity for value-added starches used in dairy, beverages, baking, snacks and dressings. The expansion, across all areas of the corn grinding complex, is currently two months behind schedule for an anticipated first quarter startup and is now slated for startup in May.

The North plant, located at 2245 Sagamore Parkway North, is Tate & Lyle’s primary U.S. production site for modified food starches and is the flagship site for value-added dent and waxy-based food starch. The Sagamore facility employs 225 and was formerly part of A.E. Staley, which Tate & Lyle purchased in 1988.

Tate & Lyle has maintained the responsibility of project management while engineering has been dedicated to AMG, Incorporated (Dayton, Ohio). All contracts have been awarded and the project is one-third complete in various places across the complex, meanwhile construction is expected to be intense over the next four months.

Tate & Lyle, founded in 1921, is one of the world's largest sugar producers and most famous for developing the artificial sweetener, Splenda. Tate & Lyle has operations on four continents and provides ingredients, ingredient solutions and services to food, beverage and industrial customers.
