Tenaska Prepares for Commercial Start-up of 885 Megawatt Generating Station in Virginia

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Tenaska Virginia Partners LP, a subsidiary of Tenaska Incorporated (Omaha, Nebraska) has completed construction (PEC 27001119) and is in start-up testing for the $350 Million Tenaska Virginia Generating Station (Plant 1051633) located in Scottsville, Albemarle County, Virginia.

Construction for the new plant started in July 2002 and was completed in early spring 2004. Tenaska anticipates full commercial operation of the project in May 2004. The new 3-on-1 combined cycle configured project consist of, three dual fueled 170-megawatt GE Power Systems MS7001FA PG7241 (FA) combustion turbine generators, three Deltak triple pressure reheat heat recovery steam generator equipped with duct burner and a 396 megawatt GE Power Systems condensing steam turbine generator all of which will provide 885 megawatts of power for the growing Albemarle County.

Coral Energy, (Houston, Texas), an affiliate of Shell Oil Company has already agreed to purchase the entire electrical production of the new generating station through a long term power purchasing agreement, in which the new plant will convert fuel owned and supplied by Coral into electricity, which will be marketed through the regional wholesale power market.

Bibb & Associates (a subsidiary of Peter Kewiet and Sons Company), headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas performed the engineering services, and Gilbert Southern Corporation (another Kewiet affiliate) headquartered in Peachtree City, Georgia were the general contractors.
