Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Maschhoffs (Carlyle, Illinois), a family-owned pork producer, began production last month at a new pork feed mill in Griggsville, Illinois. At full capacity, the mill will produce 400,000 tons annually of pelleted feed.
Groundbreaking took place last summer, and construction was completed this spring. Design-build firm Younglove LLC (Sioux City, Iowa) was retained for the project, which included the construction of a 120-ton-per-hour receiving system; a 70-ton-per-hour grinding system; a 90-ton-per-hour batching system; and a 40-ton-per-hour pelleting system. The total cost for the project was valued at $14 million.
Subcontractors involved in the project include B-K Electric Incorporated (Griggsville); Knutson Brothers Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota); and Beta Raven (Saint Charles, Missouri).
The Maschhoffs is one of the largest family-owned pork production networks in North America. The company is owned by fifth-generation family farmers and partners, with a network of 300 family farmers across the Midwest. With an estimated 3% of the U.S. pork production market, The Maschoffs expects to produce nearly 3 million hogs this year.
