Tri-State Begins Commercial Operation of the Pyramid Generating Station

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association has begun commercial operation of the Pyramid Generation Station. Pyramid is a 160-megawatt peaking station located in Lordsburg, New Mexico in Grant County. The station consists of four General Electric LM6000 (SPRINT) natural gas fired, duel fuel, combustion turbines, rated at approximately 40 megawatts each.

The power generated from Pyramid is expected to increase the generating capability of New Mexico's southern system and also help produce power during high demands for the summer and winter months in Lordsburg. The first two units began commercial operation on March 26 of this year and the fourth on April 1, 2003st. The third unit is scheduled for commercial operation this summer.

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association awarded the owner's engineering contract to the Seattle, Washington based Harris Group Incorporated. The general construction contract was awarded to TIC Incorporated., based in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. TIC has extensive experience involving a variety of different technologies, fuel types, and configurations.
