Tunisia Aims for 30% Renewable Energy by 2030

The country plans to install 4,000 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity and 1,750 MW of wind energy capacity as part of this transition.

Currently, Tunisia relies on natural gas for more than 90% of its electricity production, but under the Tunisian Solar Plan (TSP), renewable energy will take on a much larger role. Wind power is expected to contribute 46% of Tunisia's installed electricity generation capacity by 2030, with solar photovoltaic energy accounting for 39%.

Tunisia also is looking to bolster its energy cooperation with neighboring North African countries through the North Africa Power Pool. This integration will facilitate greater electricity trade with countries like Algeria, Libya and Morocco, enhancing regional energy security and further supporting Tunisia's renewable energy aspirations.
