Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 893-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Unit 1 at La Cygne Power Station, which is located in La Cygne, Kansas, was taken offline Monday due to a tube leak in the bearing cooling water system, in the cyclone of the unit's boiler. The station is operated and owned by Kansas City Light & Power, a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy Incorporated (NYSE:GXP) (Kansas City, Missouri).
Officials also are investigating leakage in the boiler floor. Sources said that as soon as their analysis is complete and the boiler is completely cooled, they will resume repairs.
Officials said that the unit may be ready to return to service Friday, if not sooner, if there are no additional delays.
The La Cygne plant has two coal-fired units with a combined capacity of 1,578 MW when at full load.
