Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). U.S. Foodservice Incorporated (Columbia, Maryland), a subsidiary of Royal Ahold N.V. (NYSE: AHO) (Zaandam, The Netherlands), is nearing completion of a $22 million expansion at their Salem, Virginia distribution center.
The 27,000 square foot office area, the 18,000 square foot truck service area, and road construction are complete. The company expects the 170,000 square foot dry cooler and freezer area to be completed by December of this year.
Upon completion of the project, U.S. Foodservice plans to hire an additional 200 employees.
The project was also backed by a $300,000 grant from Virginia Governor Mark R. Warner with funds from the Governor's Opportunity Fund that assisted the City of Salem with new roads, a new traffic light, and other infrastructure upgrades to aid in smooth traffic flow that will be created by the expansion.
U.S. Foodservice is the number two food service distributor in the United States, with annual revenues exceeding $18 billion and over 85 distribution centers nationwide. On September 11 of this year, U.S. Foodservice and Ahold announced plans to purchase Lady Baltimore Foods Inc., a wholesale firm with institutional customers in six states.
Environmental Structures (ESI) was founded by a core group of construction specialists, each with more than 25 years of experience, to provide complete programming design and construction from site selection through owner occupancy.
