Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The National Governors Association (Washington, D.C.) has submitted a list of 428 infrastructure projects to be considered by the Trump Administration, according to The Washington Post. The list is said to include hydroelectric and electrical grid improvements, as well as transportation, water and flood control, telecommunications and construction at military bases.
The document lists several potential capital projects, according to news media accounts, including repairs to South Carolina dams that were damaged by high water levels last year due to Hurricane Matthew. Currently, Industrial Info is tracking 11 hydroelectric projects in South Carolina valued at $145 million.
The document also lists upgrades and refurbishments to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) hydroelectric facilities across the U.S., according to news accounts. Industrial Info is tracking 119 capital projects at USACE power plants valued at $4.22 billion, and 22 maintenance projects valued at $38.8 million.
The document also reportedly includes the Champlain Hudson Power Express transmission line project being developed by the Blackstone Group (New York, New York), which would be constructed between Canada and the U.S. and is valued at $2.2 billion.
Also mentioned are energy storage and transmission grid modernization projects in California, which has mandated a series of mitigation measures for energy storage sources in order to avoid blackouts. Industrial Info is tracking 11 energy storage projects in the state valued at $469 million, and 84 transmission and distribution projects valued at $3.9 billion.
The new administration is trying to have approvals and permits for the projects fast-tracked in order to move the projects to construction and through a public-private partnership to get financing approved by this spring, when the federal budget is finalized.
The Trump administration has argued that it is cheaper and faster to complete these large capital projects when private investors are involved as opposed to only the federal government.
The American Society of Civil Engineers infrastructure report card estimates that the nation needs to invest $3.6 trillion by 2020 in order to address the infrastructure issue. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have shown a willingness to work with Trump in order to boost repairs and improvements to the nation's aging infrastructure and are awaiting the administration's plan to address what needs to be done.
