Valero Plans 28-Day Turnaround at Refinery in Houston, Texas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) will begin a major, 28-day turnaround on the 90,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) crude combo unit at the company's 145,000-BBL/d refinery in Houston, Texas. The areas affected will be the crude, vacuum and associated downstream units.

The planned turnaround is scheduled to begin on January 28, and Valero expects to complete the work and restart the units by February 26.

Also, planned maintenance is continuing on the same refinery's 50,000-BBL/d diesel distillate hydrotreater. Repairs began on January 21 and are expected to be completed by February 12. The maintenance had been delayed from the fall of 2010.

Valero is North America's largest independent refiner, with 14 refineries in the U.S. and Canada. Valero has a combined production capacity of more than 2.6 million barrels per day. The Houston refinery, which opened in 1942 and was acquired by Valero in 1997, produces a wide range of petroleum products. It is located on the Houston Ship Channel.
