Valero Renewable Fuels to Restart Ohio Ethanol Plant Next Week

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Valero Renewable Fuels (San Antonio, Texas), a wholly owned subsidiary of Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio), plans to begin full-scale production and operations of the company's recently acquired Bloomingburg, Ohio, ethanol plant on March 1, 2010. The dry-mill plant will be one of the largest ethanol-producing facilities in the U.S., and will utilize some 40 million bushels of maze to manufacture 110 million gallons of ethanol, and 350,000 tons of dried distiller grains annually.

VeraSun Energy Corporation (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) purchased the Bloomingburg, Ohio, facility in September 2007 from ASAlliance Biofuels (Dallas, Texas). On October 31, 2008, VeraSun filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. VeraSun idled the plant in April 2009, while additional interim financing was sought. Valero Renewable Fuels acquired the then-100 million gallon annual production plant in December 2009. Valero upgraded and expanded the equipment and processes to state-of-the-art.

The factory is on State Road 238 North East in Fayette County, approximately 40 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio, and has about 40 employees. Valero operates additional plants in Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin, and produces more than 1.1 billion gallons of ethanol annually.
