Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Compania Anonima de Administracion y Fomento Electrico (Cadafe), operates Planta Coro thermal power plant, which is currently not generating electricity due to the unavailability of its four generating units. Planta Coro Power Station became operational in 1972. The plant is located in Coro, in the Falcon State, and it has a generating capacity totaling 70MW. The power station is equipped with four (4) diesel-fired combustion turbines, two Hitachi 15-MW combustion turbines and two 20-MW GE MS 5000 machines that became operational in 1981.
Units 1 and 3 have been shut down for more than a year, and their restart date is still uncertain. Plants authorities hope to bring both units back on line in the first quarter of 2008. For details, view related October 30, 2007, article Venezuelas Planta Coro Running at 40% of Total Capacity. Unit 2 is waiting for alignment, which is scheduled for January 15, 2008. Unit 4 bearing #1 has to be replaced and the units casing has to be removed and towed for repairs.
Cadafe operates another thermal plant in the State of San Fernando, Felix Garcia Casimiro Power Plant, located in San Fernando de Apure. This plant has two of its three 20MW units out of service, only Unit 3 is available to dispatch 15MW. Units 1 and 2 are undergoing a rehabilitation program, which started early 2007 and it is due to be completed by May 2008. Unit 3 (AEG Kanis), previously installed in Los Pijiguaos, was repowered in 2003 and reinstalled at Felix Garcia Casimiro Power Plant, totaling 60MW of power output.
In addition, Cadafe is in the process of converting its 2000MW Planta Centro fuel oil fired plant, located in Carabobo State, to dual fuel. Units 1 and 5 are out of service for their conversion and upgrade of control systems. They are scheduled to be operational again by mid 2008. Unit 2 is generating only 260MW due to the unavailability of 6 burners, and unit 4 was brought back on line today after an unplanned outage last December 23rd caused by a failure in the auxiliary services breaker because of low isolation of the forced draft fan. This unit is generating only 260MW out of total 400MW. Unit 3 is shut down due to a failure in the generator caused by a detached blade of the hydrogen-cooling ventilator which resulted in cracks in the primary water systems hoses. Plant Centro maintenance division hope to bring this unit back on line in the first week of January 2008. Currently, Planta Centro is generating only 520MW of electricity.
