Ventura Refining Restarts Mothballed Oklahoma Refinery

Ventura Refining and Transmission, LLC, a joint venture comprising of six companies from Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas, began operating a 15,000 barrels per day (bpd) crude oil distillation unit last week. Company officials plan to use a sweet Oklahoman crude that will primarily produce off-road diesel at 50 parts per million (ppm) sulfur and some jet fuel.

Ventura Refining expects to begin producing gasoline by September with the completion of a 3,000 barrel per day semi-regenerative reformer. The reformer was relocated from a mothballed refinery in Dubach, Louisiana. Plant Process Equipment Company (League City, Texas) is installing the reformer and has commenced site preparation and structural erection.

There are future plans to install equipment which will allow the refinery to produce ultra low sulfur diesel in 2009 and process additional crude shortly thereafter. In preparation for the crude expansion, Ventura built an expandable 12,000 barrel per day pipeline that it tied into a Plains All American (PPA) pipeline in Cushing, Oklahoma.
