Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 174-megawatt (MW) Salt Fork I Windfarm, which is located in the Texas Panhandle in Donley and Gray counties, east of Amarillo, began commercial operations late last month, following its completion by EDF Renewable Energy (San Diego, California).
The new 174-megawatt windfarm uses 87 Vestas V110 wind turbines, and will sell the energy produced under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Garland Power & Light (Garland, Texas). The energy generated will be enough to power over 50,000 homes each year.
Construction was completed by Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) and the project qualifies for the U.S. renewable energy production tax credit. The project had a total investment value of $320 million, and it took 11 months for the windfarm to be constructed, commissioned, and begin commercial operations. EDF Renewable Energy is the owner of the project, and EDF Renewable Services will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the windfarm.
