Wisconsin Nuclear Unit Shut Down after Transformer Loss

Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Point Beach nuclear power station in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, was shut down Thursday, January 17, 2008, because of the loss of a transformer, forcing Unit 1 offline. Plant officials are looking to have the transformer issue resolved and the unit back online January 20, 2008, if there are no delays. Point Beach Nuclear Station is owned by FPL Energy Group Incorporated, a subsidiary of FPL Energy LLC (NYSE:FPL).

The station became operational in 1970. The plant has a generating capacity totaling 1,048 megawatts when at full load. The plant's other generator, Unit 2, will remain online and run at full capacity during the short-lived outage.
