Released Thursday, February 28, 2008
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--After nearly three years of negotiating with city officials, Quad/Graphics Incorporated (Sussex, Wisconsin) has finally received conditional approval from the West Allis Planning Commission for a $14 million expansion of its West Allis, Wisconsin, plant.
The building expansion will provide additional production and storage space. Details are still being firmed up as to exactly what equipment will actually be installed. A final decision on the scope of work is expected in a month or two. Full funding has still not been received for the project and a construction date has not yet been announced. If plans proceed, however, a general contractor would be selected by early summer with construction starting in mid-summer. If those dates hold true, then the project would be completed by the end of the year. Approximately 80 jobs are expected to be created.
The West Allis facility opened in 1994 as a $20 million investment for the company with 300 employees. The plant now employs approximately 995 people at this location.
Graef Anhalt Schloemer & Associates Incorporated (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) was selected to provide engineering services for the expansion.
Quad/Graphics Incorporated, founded in 1971 in Sussex, Wisconsin, is considered to be the largest privately owned printing company in the Western Hemisphere and the fifth largest printing company in the United States behind RR Donnelly and Quebecor World. Quad/Graphics is the largest printer of catalogs, magazines, books, direct mail and commercial printing products. As of 2006, it had approximately 12,000 employees and included annual sales of roughly $2 billion. Quad/Graphics operates six plants in Wisconsin and six others in the United States with joint ventures in Argentina, Brazil and Poland.
