ABS Production Increase in the Netherlands

Dow Benelux N V (Terneuzen, Netherlands) has completed construction of an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resins unit at their complex in Terneuzen. The new unit will produce 75,000 metric tons a year of MAGNUM ABS resins and will increase Dow's overall ABS resins production to almost 400,000 metric tons a year. The new unit, designed by Dow, cost approximately $50 million to construct and install equipment. Industrialinfo.com first reported this project in August of 2000; the unit started production this month.

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene resins offers resistance against heat and impact, and is extremely durable. ABS resins are used in the automobile industry for interior and exterior trim, instrument and door panels, mirror casings, and wheel covers. ABS resins can be applied by either the blow or injection molding method.
