Acciona Energy Begins Construction of $115 Million Lameque Windfarm in New Brunswick

Civil site preparation for the project began earlier this month. The project is scheduled to be completed and ready to commence full commercial operation by early 2011. It will involve constructing 30 Acciona Windpower AW77 model wind turbines, each rated at 1.5 MW. The Lameque windfarm is Acciona Energy's fourth project to be built in Canada, and it will cover more than 3,100 acres of land in the Acadian Peninsula. The windfarm is expected to provide enough clean, renewable energy to power 8,000 homes in the area. In conjunction with the new project, Acciona also has a 69-kilovolt overhead transmission line and a 12-kilovolt underground transmission line slated to begin construction. The lines are being built to link the wind turbines to the onsite substation. The estimated cost of the transmission line project is $15 million.

Earlier this year, Acciona Energy signed a 25-year power purchasing agreement with New Brunswick Power Holding Corporation (Fredericton, New Brunswick) for the total output capacity of the new windfarm project when it reaches commercial operation.

Delaney Construction Corporation (Gloversville, New York) a subsidiary of Tetra Tech Incorporated (NASDAQ:TTEK) (Pasadena, California), will act as the general contractor throughout the duration of construction for the project.
