Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Palm Beach Renewable Energy Facility 2 (PBREF2), which is located in West Palm Beach, Florida, began commercial operations in late June, following its completion by Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group Incorporated (B&W PGG), which is part of Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Incorporated (NYSE:BW) (B&W), and KBR Incorporated (NYSE:KBR) (Houston, Texas).
B&W PGG designed and manufactured the facility's three mass-burn, waste-to-energy boilers, which can generate up to 95 megawatts, and its environmental control system.
The advanced waste-to-energy facility, which has a total investment value of $668 million, is owned by the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) of Palm Beach County. It will provide 44,000 homes and businesses with electricity, while processing more than 1 million tons of post-recycled solid waste each year.
The new facility is located next to the county's original waste-to-energy facility, also designed by B&W.
