Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Air Liquide Advanced Technologies US LLC (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Air Liquide S.A. (EPA:AI) (Paris, France), is waiting for its draft permit application from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to move forward with Air Liquide's first designed, built and operated biogas purification facility facility in the state, which will be located in Walnut.
The French industrial gases provider announced late last year plans to construct and operate a landfill gas-to renewable natural gas purification plant, in conjunction with the Northeast Mississippi Solid Waste Management Authority (Walnut).
Permits are expected to be approved and in-hand by the end of the first quarter of this year, and pre-construction and earth-work activities are expected to be under way by the spring. The project is expected to be completed and operational by early 2018.
The estimated $15 million-plus project will be located on the Buck Run landfill site, which is owned by Northeast Mississippi Landfill, and operated by a subsidiary of Waste Connections Incorporated (TSX:WCN) (Concord, Ontario). The site is located in Tippah County, Mississippi, near the Mississippi and Tennessee state line, in Walnut.
The landfill receives more than 350,000 tons per year of normal household garbage, non-hazardous commercial waste and agricultural/manufacturers solid waste. That amount of landfill waste is expected to provide enough green feedstock material to produce 1,300 million British thermal units per day of pipeline-quality natural gas.
Air Liquide will also install a four-mile pipeline from the plant to tie into the natural gas pipeline grid, to expand the natural gas service to the residents of the area.
The cost to construct the membrane-based technology plant is estimated to be around $15.7 million.
