Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Alberdingk Boley, Incorporated (Ulm, Germany) has purchased a $3 million 160,000 square feet building on a 27-acre site located on High Point Road in Greensboro, North Carolina. They will spend an estimated $6 million on building renovations for the new North American headquarters and resins manufacturing plant.
This site, which was previously occupied by Omnova and built by Burlington Industries, will be the second production plant in North Carolina for Aberdingk Boley. A lab and production plant near Charlotte, North Carolina came online in late 2000. Originally, the company had plans to construct a $20 million plant in Statesville, North Carolina, but the auspicious cost prompted them to renovate instead. The new Jamestown plant and headquarters are expected to come online during the last quarter of 2003.
Alberdingk Boley is currently headquartered in Ulm, Germany but due to market demand and the decrease in transportation costs, they decided to make North Carolina their North American headquarters. The company is nearly two hundred years old but only recently entered the American market two years ago. At the moment most of their products sold in the United States are being exported from Germany. Water-based resins for paints, coatings, adhesives, inks, and textiles will be manufactured at the Jamestown plant. They have been manufacturing aqueous polyurethane emulsions since 1985 and are environmentally friendly because the solvent emissions that traditional solvent-based resins produce are virtually eliminated.
