Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Cartonplast LLC (Waunakee, Wisconsin) has commenced construction on its first U.S. polypropylene sheeting manufacturing facility on a ten-acre lot on Burton Street in Deforest, Wisconsin. This location was initially decided upon due to the railway access at the business park. Ideal Builders (Madison, Wisconsin) started construction on this 88,000 square foot facility in August 2002. Construction on this plant should be completed by the end of this year with an approximate price tag of $5 million. If market conditions are favorable, a second phase will be planned for this facility within the next three years. This would entail adding 80,000 square feet of additional space to increase production capacity.
Cartonplast's parent company, Cartonplast Trading GmbH (Dietzenbach, Germany), has been in operation for over 20 years. The Deforest plant will initially manufacture plastic sheeting that will be used in a variety of reusable packaging material and for plastic signs. The plastic extruder that will be used at the Deforest plant will be the largest of its type in the world. The $2.5 million machine, built by its Italian arm, Karton S.p.A. (Sacile, Italy), will produce up to 900 kilograms of sheeting per hour, which exceeds by more than 100 kilograms what the next largest extruder can produce.
