Auto Parts Supplier Plans $35 Million Expansion in Tennessee

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--SL Tennessee LLC (Clinton, Tennessee), a subsidiary of SL America (Clinton), is planning a $35 million expansion of the company's auto parts manufacturing plant in Clinton, Tennessee.

The company plans to expand the existing 164,000-square-foot plant by constructing a 100,000-square-foot addition, with the installation of supporting equipment. The expansion will allow the company to increase production capacity and efficiency for manufacturing automatic and manual shifters and parking brake levers. Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2010, with overall completion slated for the fall of this year. Approximately 300 new jobs will be created. The expansion was due to a contract being awarded to SL Tennessee by Volkswagen to make automatic shifter assemblies for the new Volkswagen plant at Chattanooga and to supply Volkswagen production in Mexico.

Thomas R. Hicks Construction Company (Clinton) was selected to provide general construction services for the expansion.

SL Tennessee was founded in 2001 and is a parts supplier for Volkswagen, General Motors, Hyundai and KMG. The company manufactures gear shifters, parking brakes and lighting products. SL America is approved by General Motors as an automotive parts supplier for Chevrolet, Saturn, Cadillac, Chrysler, Subaru and Hyundai.
