Beryl Reduced to Post-Tropical Cyclone, Heads Inland

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Beryl was reduced to post-tropical storm status Tuesday with sustained winds of 30 miles as it moved inland. Still, the storm was expected to produce heavy rains with the possibility of tornadoes across the lower Ohio Valley, including parts of Kentucky, southeast Missouri, northwest Tennessee, southern Illinois, southern Indiana and Ohio, according to the National Hurricane Center.

In Ohio, Toledo Refining Company LLC's 175,000-barrel-per-day (BBL) Toledo Refinery remained operational, according to sources. The storm was expected to impact the area on the morning of July 10.

Beryl struck the Texas coast as a Category 1 hurricane early Monday morning, dumping some 10 inches of water across the Houston metropolitan area. Refineries in the Gulf Coast region were largely unaffected by the storm.

Data from Industrial Info Resources show no major refinery outages. Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) (Houston, Texas) was forced to cut capacity at its Sweeny refinery in Texas, but IIR data show the facility is otherwise running as usual.

However, Beryl left more than 2 million people without power in Texas as of Tuesday, according to PowerOutage.us.

Beryl was the earliest Category 5 hurricane ever recorded for the Atlantic hurricane season, falling apart and strengthening again before it made landfall in Texas.
