Bolivian State Mining Company Advances Huanuni Mine Expansion Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Minera Huanuni (Oruro, Bolivia), a subsidiary of Bolivia's state-owned Corporación Minera de Bolivia (COMIBOL) (La Paz), is moving forward with a new processing plant project to be constructed near the Huanuni tin mine complex, located on Posokoni Hill, the largest tin deposit in Bolivia.

The project entails the construction of a new 3,000-ton-per-day processing plant to treat low-grade concentrate minerals. Currently, the Huanuni tin mine complex has two processing plants, Santa Helena and Machacamarca, which together process 1,400 tons per day of minerals.

Currently, Minera Huanuni is concluding the equipment bidding process. Construction is expected to start in early 2010. Project completion is set for October 2010. The total project investment is expected to be about $40 million.

In October 2006, the Bolivian government ordered the nationalization of the Huanuni tin mining concessions. Currrently, 4,800 employees work in Empresa Minera Huanuni, considered the largest tin producer in Bolivia.
