In this acquisition, CPFL Renovaveis acquired four windfarms: Taiba Albatros (16.8 megawatts), Canoa Quebrada (58.8 MW), Bons Ventos (50.4 MW) and Enacel (31.5 MW), totaling 157.5 MW of installed capacity. The first of these parks came into commercial operation in 2008, while the others began operating in 2010. The four parks are located in the state of Ceará and are close to the other four windfarms that CPFL Energia has in the region: Praia Formosa (105 MW), Icaraizinho (55 MW), Paracuru (23 MW) and Foz do Rio Choro (25 MW), which account for a total installed capacity of 208 MW. These windfarms began commercial operation between 2008 and 2009.
In 2011, CPFL Energia, carrying out its strategic move on the renewable energy sector, took over the portfolio of wind projects belonging to the Siif Énergies do Brasil (Fortaleza, Brazil) and merged with the Company Empresa de Investimentos em Energias Renováveis SA (ERSA) (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to create CPFL Renovaveis.
With the acquisition of Bons Ventos, CPFL Renovaveis now has a portfolio of eight windfarms (all in the state of Ceará), totaling 367.5 MW. The company has five wind projects under construction in the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul. These projects have a combined generating capacity of 670 MW. The Parazinho windfarm (188 MW) will be operational in June of this year, and the Campo dos Ventos windfarm (150 MW) will be the last to start operations in June 2014. CPFL Energia now has 809.5 MW of operational renewable energy sources in its portfolio: 367.5 MW of windfarms, 307 MW of small hydro and 135 MW biomass-fired power plants. The company has 885 MW under construction from these three sources.
