Canada's Terra Grain Fuels Targets Early June Start-Up of

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Terra Grain Fuels (Regina, Saskatchewan), a subsidiary of Universal Energy Group Limited (TSX:UEG) (Toronto, Ontario), has targeted early to mid-June as the date the company plans to fully commission its new fuel ethanol plant in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan, also known as the "Wheat Providence."

That's a good thing because wheat will be the primary feedstock for the new plant, and about 15 million bushels of the locally grown commodity will be required annually to produce the nameplate 150 million liters of ethanol capacity. Construction of the estimated $110 million plant started in September 2006, taking the company about 20 months to get into the fuel ethanol market.

The plant utilizes Delta-T Corporation's (Williamsburg, Virginia) licensed ethanol process technology and was built through a joint venture effort between VCM Contractors & Engineers Limited (Saskatoon) and EllisDon Design Build Incorporated. (Mississauga, Ontario).

Features on the new plant include zero process effluent, energy-efficient dryers and energy recycling. Terra also has on-site grain storage for 1.35 million bushels of wheat, inbound and outbound rail and truck service and 15 days of on-site ethanol storage capacity.

The plant is situated on a 160-acre site in Belle Plaine, located 25 miles west of Regina, Saskatchewan, and will have roughly 179,000 square feet of total building space at the site.

The Terra plant will also become the third commercial-scale ethanol operating in the providence. Husky operates a 34 million-gallon-per-year plant in Lloydminster, and NorAmera BioEnergy runs a small 6 million-plus-gallon-per-year plant in Weyburn.
