Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation (Wichita, Kansas), a subsidiary of Cargill Incorporated (Minneapolis, Minneapolis), has broken ground on an expansion at its beef processing plant in High River, Alberta. Cargill envisages spending $42 million to modernize the plant with new technology to improve efficiency and potentially triple its beef exports to Asia.
In order to achieve this goal, the company is adding a 52,700-square-foot building and installing an Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/SR), plus a conveyor system to transport packaged boxes of beef products through an overhead skywalk from the packaging area to the storage facility. Building erection is scheduled for early April with project completed anticipated for late spring 2012.
To perform the project, Cargill retained the services of FSW Construction Limited (Winnipeg, Manitoba) to construct the building and hired Retrotech Incorporated (Fishers, New York) to install the state-of-the-art warehousing technology supplied by Daifuku Company Limited (Osaka, Japan), a leading automated material-handling equipment manufacturer.
The facility, a 450,000-square-foot building, currently process 4,500 heads of cattle and produces 3 million pounds of beef products daily. The new technology will improve logistics by providing the production capabilities needed to meet export customer expectations.
Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation is a leading processor and distributor of fresh beef, pork and turkey, plus cooked and marinated meats.
