Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority's (OMPA) (Edmond, Oklahoma) grassroot, 103-megawatt (MW) Charles D. Lamb Energy Center recently began operations in northern Kay County, Oklahoma.
The natural gas-fired facility features a Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) SGT6-2000E combustion turbine. It will provide power for 39 cities and towns throughout the state. The plant is the first greenfield project in which OMPA is the sole owner and operator.
The Charles D. Lamb Energy Center operates only in peaking mode, when there is a high demand for electricity. The site was chosen due to the proximity of an existing Southern Star Gas Central (Owensboro, Kentucky) natural gas pipeline, and a recently built transmission line, to allow OMPA the opportunity to expand in the future.
The project had a total investment value of $115 million. The Industrial Company (TIC), a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation (Omaha, Nebraska), served as general contractor.
