Chehalis Power Project Ready for Commercial Startup

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Tractebel SA's Chehalis Power Generating subsidiary has commissioned the $250 million 500 megawatt (MW) Chehalis Power project (PEC 21000199) located in Lewis County, Chehalis, Washington. Although, the Chehalis project has not officially reached commercial startup, the construction was completed ahead of schedule and has been dispatching power for more than a month now.

Parsons Energy and Chemicals (Reading, Pennsylvania) with The Industrial Company (TIC)(Steamboat Springs, Colorado) performed the engineering procurement and construction for the project.

The 500MW project is a combined-cycle plant, including two 171MW Dual Fuel GE Power Systems Frame 7FA combustion turbines with dry low NOx combustors, two unfired Doosan heat recovery steam generators each with selective catalytic reduction sections and a 196MW reheat steam turbine. The Chehalis plant is constructed within the Chehalis Industrial Park. It has the capability to provide approximately 100,000 pounds per hour of steam to a process host. The plant utilizes a BDT multiple cell air condenser to minimize water usage and will be among the cleanest and most efficient electric power resource in the state.

Electricity produced by the facility is transmitted to the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), 500 kV transmission system, with a 1,700-foot long transmission line constructed from the switchyard, which is located adjacent to the facility. Energy generated from the facility is sold directly into the Northwest Power Pool. The plant will be authorized to use an average of 162,000 gallons of city water a day.

Tractebel, the energy division of SUEZ, is developing the Chehalis Generation Facility. Tractebel is a global energy and services business. It offers services in four areas: energy and related services, on-site services, design and construction of installations and engineering. The plant will be owned and operated by Chehalis Power Generating Limited Partnership, a Delaware corporation with its principal place of business in Houston, Texas, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tractebel Incorporated.
