Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the successful commissioning of the plant service power supply to China Huaneng Group's (Beijing) Tianjin integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) project in January, the air separation device of the plant has been successfully commissioned. So far, installation of major devices such as the gas-steam combined-cycle device, purification device and the gasification device have been completed and have entered the full commissioning stage. It is expected that the plant will be connected to the grid and begin operations by the end of this year.
The Huaneng Tianjin IGCC Plant, located in the Tianjin Lingang Industry Zone, is built and operated by Greengen Company Limited (Tianjin), a joint venture under the control of China Huaneng Group (51%), with the participation of seven leading energy players in China, including China Datang Corporation (Beijing), China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), China Guodian Corporation (Beijing), China Power Investment Corporation (Beijing), China Shenhua Group (Beijing), China National Coal Group Corporation (Beijing) and the State Development and Investment Corporation (Beijing). Each of these holds 7% of equity in the company.
The project will be furnished with a 265-megawatt (MW) IGCC unit in the initial stage, as well as a 2,000-ton-per-day gasification furnace developed by China Huaneng. Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xi'an, Shaanxi), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the main design of the project.
China Huaneng proposed the Greengen Program in 2004. The Greengen Company was officially established in 2005, with the objective to develop a near-zero-emission coal-fired power generation technology within 10 years. The project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (Beijing) in June 2009. Construction of the Phase I project was officially kicked off in July 2009.
According to the planning, China Huaneng will continue its research and development in Greengen. The company plans complete a 400-MW IGCC demonstrative project in 2015.
