Written by Paul Wiseman for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) (Houston, Texas) shut down the 16,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) coker unit at its refinery in Billings, Montana, on Friday, February 9 due to a fire in the coker pit area, according to IIR data. Before reopening, repairs will be required to pipe racks and other piping. The issue may have also impacted the refinery's 35,000-BBL/d and 20,000-BBL/d crude distillation units. Industrial Info continues to determine the impact the fire had on the balance of the refinery.
According to the Phillips 66 website, the refinery supplies refined products throughout Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Washington state. Billings is in PADD 4, the Rocky Mountains.
This follows the February 1 shutdown of the BP's (NYSE:BP) (London, England) 430,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in Whiting, Indiana. The Whiting refinery is the largest in the US Midcontinent (PADD 2). Whiting's stoppage was already affecting refined products pricing at the Chicago Board of Trade, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
Industrial Info will continue to monitor the restart schedules and any effects on refined commodity prices.
