Construction Begins on 200-MW Windfarm in Coahuila, Mexico

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A business unit of Italy's renewable energy giant, Enel, has started construction on a 200-megawatt (MW) power windfarm in the state of Coahuila, Mexico. The La Amistad power station will be located 58 kilometers northwest of Ciudad Acuna.

Energia Limpia de La Amistad, S de RL de CV, a subsidiary of Enel Green Power Mexico S de RL de CV (Mexico City, Mexico), is building the $270 million project.

The facility will have 95 Gamesa G114-2.1 MW wind turbine generator sets and cover more than 12,000 acres. The windfarm will provide about 200 MW, which will generate enough electricity for about 420,000 Mexican homes.

The project will be built under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), but Enel has not disclosed the customer. The project is estimated to create about 250 site preparation and construction jobs. About 12-15 permanent positions will be created for operation and maintenance of the power station.

The windfarm is expected to go into full operation by early 2019.
