Construction in Full Swing on Shanghai Huayi's $4.8 Billion Coal-Chemical Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction is fully under way for the Shanghai Huayi Group's $4.8 billion coal-chemical project in Wuwei County, Anhui province. The main foundation is expected to be complete by the end of the year, and work on auxiliary railroads and a port are expected to start soon. The county is working to speed up the construction of supporting infrastructure. The designed production capacity of the project will be 2.4 million tons of methanol per year with 500,000 tons per year of coal-to-olefin transfer capacity.

The first phase the Project is expected to be complete by the end of 2010. It will include a 600,000-ton-per-year methanol unit, a 500,000-ton-per-yearacetic acid unit and a 300,000-ton-per-yearethyl acetate unit. Phase II, which is expected to cost $294 million, will involve 100,000 tons per year of acetic anhydride and 150,000 tons per year of butanal octanol. Phase III, estimated to cost $3.7 billion, will add 1.8 million tons of methanol, 500,000 tons of coal-to-olefin transfer, 600,000 tons of glycol, 120,000 tons of acrylic ester, 180,000 tons of oxyful and 400,000 tons of polyvinyl chloride annually.

To accommodate the project, the county is building roads and flood-diverting structures. About $148 million will be spent to upgrade municipal infrastructure.
