Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dakota Spirit AgEnergy LLC (Bismarck, North Dakota), a subsidiary of wholesale electric service provider Great River Energy (Maple Grove, Minnesota), will begin construction on an estimated $155 million biofuel plant in Spiritwood, North Dakota, in the autumn. The facility will be adjacent to Great River's new cogeneration power plant.
Construction will begin after five years of planning, and the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by early 2015. Karges-Faulconbridge Incorporated (Saint Paul, Minnesota) is the technology provider, and the design-build award went to McGough Construction Incorporated (Saint Paul, Minnesota).
When completed, the plant will have a nameplate capacity of 65 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol and receive steam from the power plant. The plant also will produce distillers grains (173,000 tons per year) and fuel-grade corn oil (5,400 tons per year).
Plans for a 20 million-gallon-per-year fuel ethanol plant that will process more than 480,000 tons per year of wheat straw and other cellulosic material, as well as 188,000 tons of feed grains and 170,000 tons of lignin pellets, have been delayed.
