Datang International's First Thermal Power Project in Chongqing Receives Final Approval

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Datang International Shizhu Power Generation Company Limited's (Chongqing) Shizhu Power Plant grassroot project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission, the top planner in China, on December 5, 2011. According to plans, this is the first thermal power project of Datang International to be built in Chongqing, China Datang Corporation (Beijing) announced on December 26, 2011.

Datang Shizhu Power Plant is in Xituo Town of the Shizhu Tujia autonomous region. According to the approval, the owners plan to build two 350-megawatt (MW), supercritical, coal-fired, condensing-type steam turbine generating units, with high-efficiency electrostatic dust-removing, desulfurization, denitration and online flue gas continuous monitoring devices. The project will not be furnished with flue gas bypass and will be connected to the East Chongqing Grid, via Shima Substation in Zhongxian County, by two 220-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines. The project is jointly invested by Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (SHA:601991) (Beijing) (70%), the listed flagship of China Datang Corporation, and Chongqing Energy Investment Group (Chongqing) (30%).

As the project is in the reservoir area of the Three Gorges Project, construction will alleviate the power shortage in Chongqing City; improve the safe and reliable power supply in Chongqing Grid; and promote the social and economic development of Chongqing.

Presently, the project owner, together with the civil work contractor, Sichuan No.3 Electric Power Construction Company, and the designer, Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (Chengdu, Sichuan), are conducting construction for the project. The bidding process for the supply of the third batch of auxiliary equipment is under way. According to the schedule, both units of the project will be put into operation in the later half of 2013.
