Dynea Awaits Capital Approval For a Formaldehyde Plant Expansion in Alberta
Construction should begin by the end of next year and take a year to complete expansion

Dynea (Eugene, Oregon) is slowly but surely moving forward with expansion plans at their Sexsmith, Alberta plant site (PEC 56000614), as previously reported March 2003 in IIR Industry Alert titled Dynea Focuses on the East Coast for New Formaldehyde Capacity, Re-evaluates Plans in Alberta.
The planned expansion will be located on Dynea's 50-acre site, which was formally a canola oil plant, and will cost an estimated $40 million to complete. They will add a new formaldehyde production building and other ancilary new buildings. New processing equipment will be added, including kettles, which will be of in house design (Plant 2017414).
Dynea is submitting the project for corporate review and is hoping for capital approval early next year.
A firm will be selected next year to provide building construction management services and then Dynea will release remaining equipment and subcontractor bid documents. Industra Engineers and Consultants of Portland, Oregon had previously performed some preliminary engineering for this project. Construction should begin by the end of next year. It will take a year to complete the expansion.
