Eastman Biofuels' Canadian Biodiesel Plant to be Operational in Six Weeks

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held biofuels startup Eastman Biofuels LLC (Beausejour, Manitoba) is wrapping up construction activity at the company's new biodiesel plant in Beausejour and expects to begin producing fuel in about six weeks.

Once operational, the plant will produce 3 million gallons per year of biodiesel from 10,000 tons per year of canola-oil feedstocks. The plant will also have the flexibility of using animal fats as well. Construction of the estimated $2 million plant started in October of 2007, and construction was off and on while the industry struggled as a whole.

The plant's owners are optimistic that the facility will be profitable because of its small size and feedstock flexibility, while larger plants continue to struggle. Eastman also received $41,000 in federal government funding to get the project off the ground.

The plant is located about 30 miles northeast of Winnipeg in Beausejour, in the heart of Manitoba's canola-growing region. When completed, the plant will create 10 new jobs for the rural farming community.
