Enap Invests $18 Million for Chilean Bio Bio Refinery Revamp

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Chile’s state-owned oil company Enap, together with Sigdo Kooper invested $18 million on the revamp in Hydrocracking 1 at Bio Bio refinery in order to increase its capacity for internal consumption.

Enap, the main oil company and fuel producer in Chile, owns three refineries: the 113,000 barrel per day (b/d) Bio Bio refinery located in Concepcion, Chile, the 15,700 b/d Gregorio plant and the 113,000 b/d Aconcagua plant.

Sigdo Kooper was the company selected by Enap for the Revamp at Hydrocracking 1 in the Bio Bio refinery, which started in January and finished in mid-March 2007. The unit is expected to produce 2,400 cubic meters per day; however, it is currently producing 1,700 cubic meters per day due to leakage problems found after the revamp was finished. Sigdo Kooper has already begun working to solving those problems. The unit is expected to reach the 2,400 meters per day production capacity by April 13, 2007. One of the main works carried out during this revamp was the change of the already existing water coolers for air coolers and therefore work on booster pumps for the air coolers to work simultaneously. In August 2007, plans are to install a third pump without shutting the unit down since it will be used as a supplemental booster.
