Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--FedEx Ground Package System Incorporated (Memphis, Tennessee), a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis), has selected Boswell Engineering Albany (Albany, New York) to provide engineering services for a planned $55 million grassroot regional distribution center in East Greenbush, New York.
Plans include the demolition of an existing 20-year-old, 186,000-square-foot building formerly owned by Albany International (NYSE:AIN) (New York, New York) and the construction of a 250,000-square-foot building, which could be expanded to 300,000 square feet.
Albany International closed the facility in 2008, eliminating 225 jobs. The new facility will support the company's regional distribution operations and enable FedEx to consolidate two existing facilities in Colonie and Guilderland to this larger site. A general contractor will be selected in the fall with construction anticipated to begin in the early spring of 2011. Overall completion is slated for the spring of 2012.
Scannell Properties (Indianapolis, Indiana) is the developer in charge of the new center.
