Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the connection to the grid on September 14, 2012, the first unit of Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical (Group) Company Limited's (Urumqi, Xinjiang) 600-megawatt (MW) power station for its 1 million-metric-ton Calcium Carbide Project passed the 72+24-hour, continuous, full-load trial operation and was handed over for commercial operations on September 27, 2012, according to a recent announcement from Central Southern Electric Power Design Institute (CSEPDI) (Wuhan, Hubei), the general contractor of the project and a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing).
As reported, Unit 1 of the project reached full load on September 23, 2012, and then shut down for maintenance on September 24 and 25. The 72+24-hour, full-load trial operation was completed on September 27. During the trial operation, various operational parameters of the unit were satisfactory with related specifications. The unit was then handed over to the owner for commercial operations, upon receiving unanimous consent from the Acceptance Committee.
The power station is a support project for the 1 million-metric-ton-per-year calcium carbide expansion project invested by Xinjiang Zhongtai Mining Metallurgy Company Limited (Urumqi, Xinjiang), a fully owned subsidiary of Zhongtai Chemical, in the heavy chemical industry base of Fukang City in the Xinjiang autonomous region. According to plans, the power station will be furnished with four 150-MW combined heat and power units, each with a 540-ton-per-hour, ultra-high-pressure coal-fired boiler made by China Western Power Industrial Company Limited (Zigong, Sichuan).
CSEPDI won the bid for the general contracting of the project in late 2010 and signed the engineering, procurement and construction general contract with Zhongtai Chemical in March 2011. The groundbreaking ceremony of the project was then held in late March 2011.
As reported, just one day after the first grid connection of Unit 1, the steam turbine of Unit 2 also achieved its first startup. Units 3 and 4 of the project also completed the boiler flushing and steam turbine erection, respectively, on October 16, 2012. Presently, CSEPDI is working closely with related parties to have all four units commissioned in one year.
