GAIL's Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore Pipeline Project Progresses on Schedule
GAIL India Limited is progressing with Phase I of the Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore pipeline and is expected to complete the project by October 2012.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Indian gas major GAIL India Limited (BSE:532155) (New Delhi) is progressing with Phase I of the Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore pipeline and is expected to complete the project by October 2012. Phase I involves laying 26 kilometers of 30-inch pipeline from Kochi-Koottanad at a cost of $11 million.
In Phase II, pipelines will be laid from Kochi to Alwaye and Mangalore, as well as from Palghat to Bangalore, at a cost of $200 million. The first phase is expected to be completed by October 2012, and Phase II is scheduled to be completed two months later.
Phase I is progressing according to the schedule. Acquisition of Right of User (RoU) has been completed and permission has been obtained for crossing obstacles. All orders have been placed and the manufacturing and coating of bare lines has been completed. Phase I originally was scheduled to be completed by March 2012, but is now planned to be completed by October 2012, in sync with the commissioning of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Kochi.
Phase II is also on schedule. A detailed route survey has been completed and notification of the Petroleum & Mineral Pipelines Act (the acquisition of RoU in land) has been published for the entire pipeline. Out of a total of 1,189 permissions required under Phase II, as many as 812 permissions have been received as of December 2011. A total of 465 kilometers of bare pipe has been manufactured, and 270 kilometers of pipe has been coated. The contract for pipeline laying works is yet to be awarded.
