Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The last wind turbine of GD Power Yunnan New Energy Development Company Limited (Kunming, Yunnan)'s Dafengyakou Windfarm was successfully connected to the grid on December 18, 2011. So far, all 22 wind turbines in the windfarm have been tested and commissioned. This marks that the first windfarm in Kunming put into commercial operation.
Dafengyakou Windfarm, located in Fumin County of Kunming City, is the first windfarm invested by GD Power Development Company Limited (Beijing) (SHA: 600795), the listed flagship of China Guodian Corporation (Beijing), in South China's Yunnan Province. The project has a total installed capacity of 33 megawatts (MW). Construction of the project is mainly comprised of 22 wind turbines each of 1.5MW, 22 sets of box-type transformers, the 35 kilovolt (KV) collection transmission lines, the access road and a 110 KV step-up substation. Total investment of the project is about $60 million.
The project received approval from the Development and Reform Commission of Yunnan Province on December 6, 2010. Construction of the project was contracted to Yunnan Thermal Power Construction Company (Kunming, Yunnan). Erection of the wind turbines was completed on November 28, 2011 and passed the acceptance one week later. Commissioning of the 110 KV substation was then kicked off in November. The first batch of nine turbines were connected to the grid on December 17 and remaining 13 turbines also connected to the grid one by one on December 18, which finally achieved the objective of putting the windfarm into operation by the end of 2011.
Fumin is a county rich in wind resources. As introduced, the newly commissioned wind farm could have an annual utilization hour of 2,344 hours. Upon completion, the wind farm will be able to generate 77.34 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to the grid each year. According to the planning of Fumin County, in addition to the project, there are also another 3 wind farms to be built in the county in future years. Of which, the 40.5 MW Mayingshan Windfarm is expected to kick off construction shortly.
