Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Great Lakes market region, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, is gearing up to complete $12.8 billion in projects in the second quarter of this year. Leading the pack, as with most regions, is the Power Industry, with $4.6 billion in project completions. This is followed by the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with $3.6 billion in planned completions.

Click on the image at right for a breakdown by industry of planned second-quarter project completions in the Great Lakes region.

Among the top projects planned for completion in the region is Tennessee Valley Authority's (Knoxville, Tennessee) combined-cycle, natural gas-fired addition at the Paradise Fossil Plant in Drakesboro, Kentucky. The $1.1 billion project will add a 1,000-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle unit at an existing 2,558-MW coal-fired power plant. The project kicked off in the first quarter of 2015 and is expected to be wrapped up in early summer. Kiewit Engineering & Design Company (Lenexa, Kansas) is acting as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm on the project. For more information, including contact details, see Industrial Info's project report.

Another natural gas-fired project also tops the list for completions during the quarter. The Oregon Clean Energy Center in Oregon, Ohio, is an 800-MW grassroot project that began construction in late 2014, with Black & Veatch Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) acting as EPC firm on the project. The facility is using Siemens equipment and is expected to be completed in June of this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, one of the largest projects planned to be completed in the quarter is the $400 million revamp of a data center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The project is part of owner Switch SUPERNAP LLC's (Las Vegas, Nevada) planned $5 billion multi-phase buildout of a 2 million-square-foot data campus project in Grand Rapids. This part of the project involves building and structural modifications at an existing 680,000-square-foot facility on a 125-acre site, as well as the installation of supporting equipment and systems. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also on the books is the new production line equipment addition at Detroit Diesel Corporation's automotive diesel engines plant in Redford, Michigan. The project involves the construction of a new assembly line to increase manufacturing of medium-duty diesel engines. Construction kicked off in early 2016 and is expected to be completed by June of this year. The project has an estimated total investment value of $375 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
