Grupo Alfonso Gallardo Plans $3 Billion Crude Oil Refinery in Spain

The refinery will help meet the country's demand for diesel refined products. The company will select an engineering company late 2009 to begin front-end engineering design work. Grupo Alfonso also plans to select a company to perform engineering, procurement and construction services for the refinery, which is expected to begin construction in 2011. Construction is expected to take about 36 months to complete.

Grupo Alfonso is a steelmaking corporation and is the largest corrugated steel manufacturer in Spain. The company is building the refinery to help reduce its dependency on foreign imports. The new facility will be the 10th refinery in Spain. It will be a total conversion refinery using state-of-the-art equipment and processes.
