Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Guardian Fiberglass Incorporated, a division of Guardian Building Products Distribution (GBPD), (Greer, South Carolina), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guardian Industries Corporation (Auburn Hills, Michigan), is finishing up construction of a second insulation line at its plant located in Inwood, West Virginia. Construction on the line addition began last year. The new line will be capable of producing up to 100 tons of fiberglass insulation per day when it comes online during the third quarter of 2004.
Industrialinfo.com has been tracking construction at the Inwood site since planning for the plant began in 1997. Guardian purchased a 790,000 square foot building from AT&T and retrofitted the plant to produce fiberglass insulation. The Inwood plant began operations in 1998, and plans for the line addition began in early 1999.
Ricketts Construction Company Incorporated (Winchester, West Virginia), founded in 1957 by Charles A. Ricketts, was chosen as general contractor for the project. The company started out as a residential construction company and now has a reputation as one of the premier builders of utility, municipal, governmental, and healthcare facilities throughout the Virginias and Maryland.
Guardian's fiberglass division operates other plants in Ontario, Canada; Albion Michigan; Mineral Wells, Mississippi; and Kingman, Arizona, and plans to announce later this summer a decision on whether to expand its plant in Albion, Michigan or to build a new plant in Waco, Texas.
As previously reported by Industrialinfo.com, Guardian Industries is planning close to $250 million in capital expenditures for its flat glass division as well, including the construction of a new float glass plant in Mexico and major expansions in California, Iowa, and South Carolina.
