Harris County, Texas, Industrial Projects Under Construction Reach $2.8 Billion

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In addition to the $7 billion worth of industrial projects in Harris County, Texas, scheduled to begin construction in 2009 or beyond (for details see related April 9, 2009 news article - Harris County Industrial Projects Totaling $7 Billion Begin to Mount), there are 30 projects totaling almost $2.8 billion currently under construction in the county. These projects range from METRO light rail system construction to refinery projects to oil- and gas-storage terminal expansions.

By project value, half of the industrial projects under construction in Harris County are in the Pharma-Biotech Industry, which has eight projects totaling $922 million under way. University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has a number of projects under construction, as do Rice University and the University of Houston. Projects range from biomedical research building construction to upgrades of the physical plant.

Other industries with projects under construction include Industrial Manufacturing, Chemical Processing, Oil & Gas Terminals and Refining. For example, NRG Texas LLC is nearing completion of construction activity on a new 550-megawatt combined-cycle unit addition at the Cedar Bayou Power Station in Baytown, Texas. Construction began on the $400 million project during the summer of 2007. Commercial operation of the new unit is scheduled for June 2009. Zachry Construction Corporation (San Antonio, Texas) is providing general contracting services on the project.
