Highwater Ethanol Performs First Grind at Minnesota Fuel Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Highwater Ethanol LLC (Lamberton, Minnesota) performed their first corn grind Friday, August 14, in Lamberton to mark the opening of the company's new fuel ethanol plant. The plant officially began ethanol production at 6 a.m., and the renewable fuel is expected to begin flowing this week.

Highwater Ethanol was formed in May 2006, and it took three years for the company to reach actual production. The plant was built by the design-build team of ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) and Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota). When fully operational, the plant will produce 55 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol from more than 21 million bushels of locally grown corn. The plant also will generate 178,359 tons of distillers dry grains with solubles and distillers wet cake.

The plant is located about 110 miles southwest of Minneapolis on U.S. Highway 14 in Redwood County. Some 37 employees work at the facility, and the plant is the twentieth operational plant in the state.

An official grand opening ceremony is planned for September 11, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. The public will be welcome to a tour of the facility.
