Gulfstream Natural Gas Performs Turnaround on Mobile Bay Natural Gas Plant in Alabama
Gulfstream Natural Gas System, a joint venture of Williams Partners and Spectra Energy, is performing planned maintenance on its two-train Mobile Bay Natural Gas Processing Plant in Alabama. The five-day turnaround of the 600 million-standard-cubic-foot-per-day, 80,000-barrel-per-day facility began on Monday, July 10, and is expected to conclude this Friday, July 14. (Plant: 1050673)
U.S. LNG Exports Projected to Jump in 2017
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects liquefied natural gas (LNG) gross exports will average 1.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2017, up from 0.5 Bcf/d in 2016. By the end of 2017, trains 1 through 4 at Cheniere's Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana are expected to be fully operational, and Cove Point LNG in Maryland is expected to come online. The EIA projects gross LNG exports to average 2.8 Bcf/d in 2018, as Sabine Pass and Cove Point ramp up capacity and two new LNG facilities come online. Cameron LNG Train 1 is scheduled to come online in July, followed by Train 2 in November, and Freeport LNG is scheduled to come online in November. Both facilities are along the U.S. Gulf Coast. Cameron LNG Trains 1 and 2 will add 1.1 Bcf/d of new liquefaction capacity, and Freeport Train 1 will add 0.7 Bcf/d of new capacity. The new Cameron and Freeport liquefaction facilities will require a few months to ramp up and are projected to operate below nameplate capacity in 2018. Total U.S. natural gas imports averaged 8.2 Bcf/d in 2016, and they are expected to average 8.3 Bcf/d in 2017 and 8.8 Bcf/d in 2018. The EIA projects that the United States will become a net exporter of natural gas on average in 2017, with net exports expected to average 0.4 Bcf/d. As LNG exports increase, 2018 net exports are forecast to be 1.3 Bcf/d. (Plant: 3007400)

Total Expects to Complete Port Arthur Refinery Repairs Next Week
Total continues with unplanned repairs on the 35,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) NAC Group Reformer CCR (Unit 825) at its 175,000-BBL/d Port Arthur, Texas, refinery. The unit was shut due to a leak on July 10. As a result of the outage, the 42,000-BBL/d Reformer Feed Hydrotreater was shut down on Tuesday. It is anticipated the work will be completed and both units will be back online by July 18. (PADD 3) (Plant: 1018176)
Marathon to Conduct Two Weeks Planned Maintenance at Louisiana Refinery
Marathon will conduct two weeks of planned maintenance and catalyst work in September on the 43,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Heavy Naphtha Desulfurizer 11, 42,800-BBL/d Platformer 12 CCR, 80,000-BBl/d DHT Hydrofiner 14 and 86,000-BBL/d Gas Oil Hydrotreater 15 units at its 530,000-BBL/d Garyville, Louisiana, Refinery. U.S. Petroleum Refinery Capacity Continues to Increase
U.S. operable atmospheric crude distillation capacity reached 18.6 milion barrels per calendar day as of January 1 this year, which is 1.6% higher than at the beginning of 2016 (EIA). The increase in operative capacity was slightly lower than last year's increase of 2.0%. The capacities of secondary units that support heavy crude oil processing and production of ultra-low sulfur diesel and gasoline, including thermal cracking (coking), catalytic hydrocracking, and hydrotreating/desulfurization, also increased. Catalytic hydrocracking and deasphalting units experienced the largest capacity increases over the past year, rising by 4.5% and 6.1%, respectively. The refinery capacity reported for the start of 2017 includes one new unit, the 42,500-barrel-per-calendar-day Magellan Midstream Partners condensate splitter in Corpus Christi, Texas. Condensate splitters are distillation units that process condensate, which is lighter than crude oil. (Plant: 1517628)
